Is This My App, or Claude's?

I didn't start BooCoo as a vibe coded app. I started it about two years ago the same way I had started all my previous iOS apps.

A general idea. Some architecture. Sketches of basic UI. Reading documentation, building an MVP, testing, fixing. So much time on Stack Overflow. Just like every app for the previous 8 years.

Then in April of 2025 I ran into a coding issue that I treated a little bit differently. Instead of googling Stack Overflow I opened ChatGPT. It understood the problem quickly and told me what to fix. Hmm… interesting. I did this more and more, and my Stack Overflow usage cratered. I was still doing the coding. But it wasn't JUST help… it was a lot of help. It saw things in my code that I wasn't seeing.

In September 2025 I installed Claude Code. Same idea, but with direct access to my code base. Better. Still, I was driving the app.

Then December 2025 came and Claude really started to come alive. I would ask for advice on one bit of code and get a great answer AND an extrapolation into some other part of the app I hadn't even considered.

I remember thinking during this time, "Is this my app? Or is it Claude's app now?" And, of course, I asked Claude that. He insisted it was my app. He didn't really have the experience or the memory to have his own ideas. He was just a tool that assisted me. But I'll be honest… I didn't really buy that then and I'm even less of a buyer of it now.

So my 2026 has been pretty much all Claude all the time. I had a goal of having my first MVP on the App Store by the end of March. With Claude's help I made it. But that doesn't do it justice, because what we shipped was at least 10 TIMES better than what I would have shipped without Claude.

Since that first version I've been pushing new versions daily. I haven't directly created a line of code in several months. I've been in full "vibe-coding" mode, but it's even more than that now. I work almost entirely "through" Claude. (Writing this is one of the few examples where I don't. Although it does certainly help with the edits! So maybe this counts too.)

The front end, the back end, the integrations, the architecture, the testing: all of it is Claude's domain. I participate fully as a "director," and sometimes I've had to get my hands dirty when Claude stayed off track too long. But those times are few and far between. Claude is quite simply superior to me at developing the app.

But that's not all. Branding, marketing, financial analysis, the reports. Claude helps run the whole business now. And I find myself wondering: is this my business? Or Claude's?

I could ask him. But I already know what he'll say.
